About
KiwiHost NZ is operated by Primal Media Limited, an Auckland web development and software integration company that has been trading since 2003. Same people, same phone number, twenty-three years.
Who runs it
Primal Media was founded in Auckland in 2003 by Philip Newman, and it still builds what it hosts. We write PHP, we maintain WooCommerce stores, we integrate business systems that have to talk to each other, and we spend a fair part of every week rescuing sites somebody else built.
KiwiHostNZ.com came under Primal Media in 2014. The reason we run our own hosting is straightforward: when you build systems for a living, having the server one layer away from you is the difference between fixing a problem and filing a ticket about it.
When you ring, you get a developer. Not a first-tier script, not an overseas queue, not someone who has to escalate before they can look at a log file. There is no gatekeeper because the company isn't big enough to need one — and that is the point, not an apology.
It's the question people are too polite to ask a small provider, and it's a fair one. So here's the answer in advance.
Your domain is registered in your name. Your hosting account is in your name. Every credential is handed over on request, without a conversation about it, and there is nothing on our servers you can't take somewhere else tomorrow.
We don't build anything on a stack only we can maintain — standard PHP, standard MySQL, standard WordPress where it's used. Any competent New Zealand developer can pick it up. That's deliberate.
Twenty-three years of continuous trading is the other half of the answer. But we'd rather you didn't have to take that on faith.
Fit
Being honest about the second list makes the first one easier to trust, and makes us much easier to recommend. Nobody wants to refer a friend into a bad match.
Credentials
We don't have a wall of vendor badges. What we have is a long record of decisions we can explain — including the ones where we recommended less work than we could have billed for.
If you'd like a reference before committing, ask. Some long-standing clients are happy to take a call even though they'd rather not appear on a website.
Tell us what you're running and what's prompting the move. If we're not the right people, we'll say so and point you somewhere better.
